By candidate master Peter Zhdanov, editor of Pogonina.com In this special weekly column we will be looking at the most unexpected upsets that happened last week. Players usually face opponents of a comparable level. Considerably less frequent are situations when a significantly lower-rated player succeeds in beating a much stronger adversary. A delicate question that I would like to address today is that some of the results featured in our weekly hit list may be a product of cheating. In fact, a few GMs have expressed their opinion that Borislav Ivanov's recent performance was too good to be true for a players of his level. However, presumption of innocence is still in place, so his games haven't been removed from the top-10. Top-10 upsets: Bohak (2068) - Gunsek (1603), 0-1, 465 points Spelec (2066) - Murko (1634), 0-1, 432 points Kozul (2638) - Ivanov (2227), 0-1, 411 points Kukurin (1802) - Babic (2177), 1-0, 375 points Murk0 (1634) - Tolic (1976), 1-0, 342 points Ivanov (2227) - Kurajica (2565), 1-0, 338 points Kevlishvili (1941) - Mamejarova (2277), 1-0, 336 points Ivanov (2227) - Zelcic (2560), 1-0, 323 points Senders (1967) - Pel (2288), 1-0, 321 points Vogel (2166) - Plat (2483), 1-0, 317 points Average gap: 366; White won 7 games, Black won 3 games Replay the games Related reading: Episode 8 Episode 7 Episode 6 Episode 5 Episode 4 Episode 3 Episode 2 Episode 1
