The European Team Chess Championship predictably remained in the shadow of the World Chess Championship Match. 38 teams (including 142 GMs) participated in the Open section. 32 teams (13 GMs and 41 WGMs) took part in the Women's tournament. The winners of the women's championship: Ukraine (1st seed) is now the reigning World & European Team Chess Champion: Kateryna Lagno, Anna Ushenina, Mariya Muzychuk, Natalia Zhukova, Inna Gaponenko Russia (2nd seed) won the silver medals: Valentina Gunina, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Natalia Pogonina, Olga Girya, Alexandra Goryachkina Poland (4th seed), hosts of the ETCC, bronze medals: Monika Socko, Jolanta Zawadska, Joanna Majdan-Gajewska, Iweta Railich, Karina Szcepkowska-Horowska
